Maintenance Coordinator in Charge of Safety & Security

Job Summary



Coordination of maintenance operations in support to Chief Engineer with special focus on Health & Safety & Security issues related to both Hotels The Westin Excelsior and the St Regis (Rome).

Provides directions and support to develop a pro-active and flexible maintenance team via training & technical support and the use of empowerment.



Maintenance Operations:

Maintain the building in good conditions including all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, and related equipment.

Assists the Chief Engineer, in accordance with a planned preventative maintenance program, in assuring that all areas are maintained to the standard expected by our guests and Marriott International policy.


Health & Safety & Security

Supports C.E. in putting together the required documentation related to maintenance/engineering with a special focus on preparation of Documents/Management Action Plan for the annual "Health & Safety Audit” (LRA, Zurich, Katara Assessment, etc.).

The Candidate will be part of S&S Committee (monthly basis meetings).




·       Conduct regular walk-throughs of the hotel to visually assess the status of the physical product, and any other operating equipment to make sure daily operations are conducted in accordance with Marriott Health & Safety & Security Policies and local regulations.

o   Verify completion of all routine maintenance tasks in all on public spaces such as meeting rooms, ballrooms, outlets, back of the house and external areas.

o   Verify completion of all repairs, replacement, and renovation works throughout the hotel.

·       Assists the C.E. in the coordination and supervision of capital work projects.

o   Defines specifications and prepare drawings where applicable on small projects.

o   Develops scope of works for all projects.

o   Coordinates review of specifications and drawings from designers and ensures consistence on large projects with hotel.

o   Evaluates bids and prepares project release package for hotels.

o   Develops punch list of defects and ensure necessary work is completed before issuance of final completion certificates where applicable.


·       Provides assistance to C.E in training and development of engineering staff;

·       Adheres to all corporate policies and controls in Health & Safety and Purchasing and make sure third parties/external contractors follow our policies & procedures;

·       Follows prescribed safety procedures for personnel, contractors and equipment at all times.

·       Maintains an effective Energy Management and Preventive Maintenance program, using the best required system to ensure a safe and efficient use of equipment and energy in the hotel.

·       Accesses, inputs and elaborates data to generate required reports.




  • Demonstrates initiative at all times.
  • Operates a planned preventative maintenance program to ensure the building, plant and equipment is maintained to a high level of comfort and safety.
  • Motivates team and seeks continuous improvement of policies and service practice.
  • Maintains an effective engineering stores system.
  • Ensures accurate records are completed and maintained for utility readings, training and work schedules.
  • Supervises and controls line staff and contractors, ensuring optimum performance, efficient and safe working procedures.

·         Experience in office procedures, ordering materials, record keeping systems, applicable building laws, building construction, blueprint reading, etc.

·         Thorough knowledge of all types of mechanical equipment such as chillers, boilers, water treatment, and refrigeration equipment.

·         Thorough knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems, power, water and gas supplies.

·         Working knowledge of occupational safety and health, wage issues, and labor relations (unions)





Bachelor’s Degree required.

Degree in Engineering or Architecture. Preferably degree in building engineering, civil or mechanical.



One to two years of experience in related positions. Prior hotel experience preferred.


Licenses or Certificates:

Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates or permits beneficial to hotel.

Includes Certification in Health & Safety.
