Located at the forefront of Dubai’s most prominent thoroughfare, the Sheraton Grand Hotel seamlessly connects to the heart of the booming business district. Our hotel is just across from the Dubai World Trade Centre and within walking distance of the Dubai Convention Centre. A short drive will take you to DIFC, Dubai Mall, or downtown, and Dubai International Airport (DXB) is 10 kilometers away. Standing 53 stories tall, the hotel comprises 474 guest rooms and suites, as well as 180 one- to three-bedroom serviced apartments. All accommodations span at least 36 square meters. Our expansive conference center boasts meeting rooms with natural illumination and state-of-the-art audiovisual technology. The Sheraton Grand Hotel also offers a Sheraton Club Lounge that has extensive services and exciting 31st-floor views.

POSITION PURPOSE
  • To assure effective maintenance, preventative maintenance, Ken Fix it and sustainability programs and processes.
  • To assure the highest standard of fire and Building safety.
  • To ensure focused process in selecting, hiring and engaging of the right individuals for the right job. Fostering a culture of learning and development in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Provides branded experiences when interacting with guests;
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, projects and CAPEX plans and assure highest possible ROI.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Selects, hires and trains all Engineering Associates.
  • Periodically holds performance appraisals and rolls out development plan for associates with career growth potential.
  • Assists in developing a learning culture in his/her area of expertise.
  • Drives Building safety and Fire safety Training programs and evaluates compliance periodically (quarterly) with the assistance of the Director of Security, executes 2 complete Hotel Evacuations per Year.
  • Establishes and fosters good relations with all local authorities – Fire Departments, Building permits, etc.
  • Assures that Marriott and local laws, policies and procedures are followed through at all times, measured and documented, local compliance, LRA.
  • Follows through with all Building handover procedures and processes for all projects as per Marriott policies, keeping in mind local law.
  • Set up and monitor an effective ‘branded’ Ken Fix it and Guest facing maintenance process.
  • Sets up and monitors an effective maintenance and preventative maintenance program / process.
  • Negotiates and renegotiates all engineering related contracts.
  • Finds innovative solutions and improve operational efficiencies.
  • Drives all Marriott prescribed sustainability processes / programs and finds ways to be/become the leading hotel / department in sustainability for the Brand and the market we do business in.
  • Works on Energy and Water Conservations to achieve Marriott’s goal, forecast monthly energy and water consumption and measure daily results. Implement effective actions in case of shortcomings.
  • Prepare annual budgets and monthly forecasts.
  • Manage departmental expenses and productivity to assure maximum efficiency
  • Prepares annual CAPEX and project plan and assures the effective and efficient rollout of such. Assures a respectable ROI for all CAPEX and project items which are not safety and security related.
  • Follows through with all other issues assigned to him/her by the General Manager.
 
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
  • Hospitality background is a must;
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years in a role as a Director of Engineering working in hotels with complex set-up;
  • Proven track record of successful completion of multiple projects such as refurbishment, pre-opening, laundry expansion or set-up, etc.;
  • Must possess business acumen and be experienced in driving and implementing sustainability initiatives;
  • Must possess the latest knowledge of available technologies in related field and be able to recommend / apply the such for the benefit of the hotel and operations;
  • Excellent command of English (verbal, written);
  • Must be diplomatic and able to maintain effective owners relations.
 
EDUCATION
 
Bachelor degree required.
 
 
PSYCHICAL CONDITION REQUIRED FOR YOUR ROLE
  • Ability to work under Stress;
  • Ability to work long hours, including weekend and holidays, and be on call in emergency;
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and on construction sites;
  • Ability to lift, pull and push heavy items/weights;
  • Ability to sit for long hours in front of a computer.
