Job Summary


The Director, Development Asset Management, is accountable for delivering value expected from new hotels during the period from deal signing to opening.  The incumbent will manage a cross functional team for each project, including Market Operations, Development, Legal, A&C, Treasury, Development Finance, Tax, Risk Management and others as required.   Team members report to functional departments, so strong influence and relationship skills are required to achieve expected results.  The incumbent and this team will interact with owners, architects, financial institutions and other external constituents.  Reports to Vice President, Asset Management, Greater China.


Specific Job Summary


The Director will be responsible for providing single point accountability for new hotel projects of low to moderate risk and complexity.  These will include new builds and conversions under the all brands (Ritz-Carlton, Edition, Marriott, Renaissance, Courtyard and Fairfield Inn brands).  The primary responsibility is to manage the execution of hotel projects and to take decisive action or marshal appropriate functional resources to deliver anticipated project results.  The Director will also work with Vice Presidents of Asset Management on large, complex projects.

  • Implement processes to lead, manage and monitor a large number of projects.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of those processes.

  • Deliver hotels on time, on budget and with anticipated projected value.

  • Deliver hotels that meet brand standards and enhance brand equity.

  • Mobilize internal resources to satisfy owners, while achieving above results

  • Demonstrate an awareness of personal strengths and areas for improvement and act independently to improve and increase skills, knowledge and future performance.

  • Manage execution, including:

    • Define goals and strategies clearly

    • Institute appropriate controls and measures to anticipate and manage project risks

    • Align accountability, resources and control systems to achieve desired results

    • Establishes appropriate project priorities with multiple stakeholders

    • Communicates project status and issues appropriately to all stakeholders

  • Develop internal and external relationships up to the Vice President level

  • Manage and motivate a cross functional team that reports to functional departments and will likely include members senior to the incumbent.

Key Candidate Experience Profile


The position involves extensive interaction with internal and external parties outside of Asset Management.  It requires professionalism, creativity, diligence and organization to nurture these relationships and to both design and implement processes to achieve anticipated results.  The incumbent should possess a strong background that commands professional respect in at least one of the functional areas involved in the deal signing to opening process.


Experience and Knowledge

  • BA required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant professional work experience.  Hospitality and/or commercial real estate experience strongly preferred.

  • Understands contracts and contracting.

  • Strong knowledge of project finance and real estate development issues.

  • Understands business processes at headquarters, in the field and within external ownership organizations.

  • Solid understanding of domestic and international business concepts

  • Detail and process orientation

  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships internally and externally up to the Sr. Vice President level.

  • Ability to identify, communicate and resolve key project issues

  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects

  • High degree of initiative and ability to work both in teams and independently

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
