Job Summary


Internal Communications, a function of Global Communications & Public Affairs (GCPA), is charged with enterprise wide internal communications for Marriott International, including amplification of Marriott’s corporate storytelling through an agile and integrated platform that includes social and digital distribution channels. The internal communications team is responsible for the strategy, creation and overall management and delivery of a portfolio of enterprise-wide communications programs and channels that is designed to educate, engage and excite Marriott associates globally while also continuing to advance the Company’s culture and values.  

 

The Staff Writer is responsible for executing the enterprise wide communications strategy by developing and drafting communication materials for internal distribution.  This position works with stakeholders within the Company to identify key announcements and messages and creates content for these messages, including writing the message, securing images,  and occasionally supporting the production and distribution of other mediums, such as video. The position also manages the distribution of that content through Marriott’s internal communications vehicles (Headline News, MI Pulse, HQ Digital Boards, Digital Workplace Home Page, Heart of the House). Additionally, this position will support key associate engagement activations and communications programs, ensuring they accurately and consistently convey and affirm the company’s key messages and goals.

 

This position reports directly to the Director, Internal Communications - Publication and Distribution.

 

Expected Contributions

 

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

 

§  Drafts and writes content for Company articles to be included in Headline News, MI Pulse, Digital Workplace home page content, and Heart of the House stories.  

§  Researches content materials and develops concepts and messages, as well as draft copy, edit, and proofread content.

§  Maintains appropriate distribution lists for communication vehicles.

§  Creates, plan, and execute communications strategies to effectively disseminate key messages.

§  Handles and manages protocols for internal announcements. Creates alignment by taking concepts/ideas from various stakeholders and creating visually compelling content.

§  Manages posting of content on Marriott International’s corporate headquarters’ digital boards. Refresh messaging and maintain the editorial calendar.

§  Monitors and responds to emails received in the team’s group mailboxes, daily. Research responses other departments, as appropriate.

§  Builds relationships proactively with key associates/stakeholders and participates in events throughout the company. Maintains relationships with a variety of internal and external resources for news and data regarding industry, company, investor relations, legislation, social impact, diversity, etc.

§  Responsible for process improvement by actively seeking user and customer feedback.

§  Supports the Internal Communications team with design and production of key communications programs and their supporting assets (e.g., Global Communicators Summit, Senior Leadership Forums, Worldwide Business Forums, General Managers' Conferences).

§  Recommends to department leaders how to evolve communication vehicles as well as associate engagement activities to help optimize communications flow, message integration, and delivery platforms as well as to grow readership/followers.

 


 

Requirements for Position

Candidates should possess knowledge and experience as well as demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

 

§  Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in internal communications, journalism or public relations. Travel, or hospitality or background preferred.

§  Strong written and verbal communications skills; ability to present ideas and information in a concise, organized manner, with excellent time management skills.

§  Relevant experience on a large-scale global technology-related systems and projects

§  Good organizational, time-management, and project management skills. Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced, changing environment

§  Strong written, verbal, and listening skills; effective knowledge of English usage, punctuation, and grammar, with an emphasis on writing and editorial skills and formats.

§  Ability to write internal communications content including articles, statements and executive messages.

§  Demonstrated understanding of the digital/social landscape.

§  Experience managing an editorial calendar and successfully driving a content plan aligned to a strategy.

§  Excellent judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making capabilities.

§  Natural curiosity about the company and industry that leads to creative thinking about communications topics and engagement strategies.

§  Results-driven strategic thinker. Ability to think holistically; identify and prioritize key opportunities; and, implement change expediently.

§  Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization and work effectively with outside resources. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

§  Proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Creative Cloud, and other relevant software.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or marketing required. Master’s degree a plus.
